Alliant steel powder
The world was first introduced to Alliant Steel in 1998. Steel was supposed to increase the efficiency of waterfowl loads loaded with shot. Because it burns more slowly than Blue Dot, the standard steel shooting charger, it is not recommended for rapid fire. The most reliable combustion rate for towing heavy loads is low. In recent years, non-toxic hunting loads like Hevi-shot and ITX have made steel a popular choice. Both Unique and Alliant advise against using them for cover-based scaling.
Alliant Steel Powder
This smokeless powder is called Alliant STEEL and is used to make steel shot. As a waterfowl shotshell powder, it generates high velocities for steel shots at manageable pressures in loads of 10 and 12 gauge.
Alliant Steel Powder
New waterfowl shotshell special powder enables high pressures and safe steel shot velocities for 10 and 12 gauge loads. Two ounces of value can be obtained from purkey loads. Delivering peak performance in any climate is a given. Analyzed the sole powder capable of loading steel and other non-toxic shotshells. All the grains are the same size and shape.
Alliant steel powder
Alliant steel Smokeless Powder is backed by a century of experience in production and the industry’s most cutting-edge quality assurance practices, all of which are evident in every can. Tests and measurements of chemical composition, grain shape and size, and overall density must be performed regularly in a ballistics laboratory to ensure consistency in ballistics.
Steel is a clean-burning hunting powder that works well for both 10 and 12 gauges and allows for quick reloads. It has been repeatedly shown to be trustworthy and effective in any climate.
Manufacturer’s warnings:
Do not exceed the loads shown in the guide for reloaders.
No two powders mix, irrespective of type, brand or source.
Do not replace any smokeless powder with Black Powder or Black Powder.
Maison Dominguez –
I have used this powder for many years, in many different steel shot load configurations, in both 12ga and 20ga with great success. I don’t use anything else any more.
Brodie Winters –
STEEL gives the highest velocities possible with magnum 12 gauge shells. The smell of this powder in the morning is unbelievably delicious.
Lewis Berger –
I have used this powder since it came out. It gives higher velocities than blue dot or the IMR powders. It seems to be more consistent in the often sub-zero temps in late season. When used with BPI shot and wads it is a lethal combo for any waterfowl try it.
